About The DR100 Wood Bat:

The DR100 wood baseball bat is the perfect transition bat for the young player moving from a youth bat to a bat with a full size barrel.
Normally, at age 12-13, a hitter outgrows his/her K455, K240, or K271 wood youth bat. This is a result of physical size, league requirements and/or the speed of pitching now faced. Stick with a youth bat and the chance of breaking the bat increases greatly. Go to a high-school weight bat too soon and your young hitter starts picking up bad habits (like dropping the shoulder and dragging the bat through the strike zone).
Enter the DR100 to save the day! It features a full-size barrel, of same diameter as our pro series BB71 and JK5 wood bats. This gets the hitter used to swinging a bigger barrel wood bat like they will have to swing no later than high school age. And, because it is designed specifically as a transition bat and made from the same quality wood we use for all our pro series wood bats, it comes in at only 2-3 ounces heavier than our youth bats, but still at least 2 ounces lighter than a pro series bat.

Per Little League rule 1.10, bats for Little League (majors) and below, shall be a smooth, rounded stick and made of wood or of material tested and proved acceptable to Little League standards. It shall not be more than 33 inches in length, not be more than two and one-quarter inches in diameter, and if wood, not less than fifteen-sixteenth inches in diameter (7/8 inch for bats less than 30 inches) at its smallest part.
In regard to the new USA Baseball bat standard: solid, one-piece wood bats that adhere to Little League’s regulations will be allowed for play with or without the USA Baseball mark (see Rule 27). So, if you have a Phoenix wood youth bat and play in any youth league, you are all set!

All Phoenix Bats youth wood bats meet or exceed USABat and Little League standards.

Typical user:

  • 12-13 yr old. At 14, must swing full size bat
  • Too big for youth bat but not ready for weight of full size bat
  • Wants to develop level swing & master form
  • Needs bat to meet Little League & new USA Baseball standards

DR100 Wood Bat Stats:

  • Barrel: 2.48” high school size barrel but at more manageable weight
  • Handle: .93” slightly flared handle
  •
  • Knob: Flared knob with just enough to catch hand
  • Weight: -5 drop (length - 5 = weight)

Great wood bat, whether you are looking for a good cage bat or game bat. My son loves the feel and wanted to go hitting as soon as it came in. This is my 5th or 6th purchase from Phoenix and they are always great. quick turn around and reasonable pricing. A+++

So far so good. The kid likes the feel and balance off the tee. No live pitching yet. Would definitely recommend this bat for a first time wood bat user.

Terrific bat for a player transitioning to -3. My 13yr old loved it literally right out of the box. Whether it's the superb balance or just the general "feel" of this model, his swing and the resulting velocity / distance are 15%-20% greater with this bat. Would highly recommend.

    Bat review

I just wanted to drop a note and share about our recent experience. My son is 12 and had his first wood bat tourney this past weekend. We were entered into the event kind of last minute. I received my fast ship bat as expected in a few days. Loved the customization and feel. My son was so excited to try his bat he actually got spoken to by his on line teacher as he was caught holding and rubbing the new bat during his class. On the way into the facility sat afternoon he said “dad I’m so excited to play baseball today and try my new bats “ Well they didn’t disappoint. He had two games sat. He went 4/6 With 2 no doubt homeruns, a double off the fence and a triple in the gap. The entire team was sharing his bats. I believe several are going to be ordering from you over the next few weeks. So if you see a bump in Long island sales that’s his body armor titans 12 u team. Thanks for great service and a great product. I will try to email you the videos of his

I bought this for my 5'1" 11 year old son. He had a Phoenix youth bat (30" K455) that he broke earlier in the season on a well struck ball, which told me he had outgrown youth bats, but he is definitely not big and strong enough for a full-sized wood bat, so we bought the DR100, which has been an excellent choice for him, and a bat I would recommend for an experienced but younger and smaller player. My son loved the bat right away. It is a well balanced bat. Because it is slightly heavier than his USABat, he found it had good pop. (He knocked one out on his old man in his first BP with the bat.) His teammates and coaches enjoying swinging it too because it is so well balanced. It was the perfect bat for my son at his age, size, and ability.
