Description

About The DR271 Wood Bat:

The DR series of wood baseball bats are perfect for the transition of a young player moving from a youth bat to a bat with a full-size barrel.

Normally, at age 12–13, a hitter outgrows their K455, K240, or K271 wood youth bat. This is a result of physical size, league requirements and/or the speed of pitching now faced. Stick with a youth bat and the chance of breaking the wood bat increases greatly. Go to a high-school weight bat too soon and your young hitter starts picking up bad habits (like dropping the shoulder and dragging the bat through the strike zone).

Enter the DR271 to give the big 12–13 year old a power hitter's wood bat. The full-size barrel that gets the hitter used to swinging a bigger-barrel wood bat like they will have to swing no later than high school age. Because it is designed specifically as a transition bat, it comes in at only 2–3 ounces heavier than our youth bats. This makes for a very smooth transition, as it leaves the DR271 at least 2 ounces lighter than a wood bat that a high schooler will have to swing.

Per Little League rule 1.10, bats for Little League (majors) and below, shall be a smooth, rounded stick and made of wood or of material tested and proved acceptable to Little League standards. It shall not be more than 33 inches in length, not be more than two and one-quarter inches in diameter, and if wood, not less than fifteen-sixteenth inches in diameter (7/8 inch for bats less than 30 inches) at its smallest part.

In regard to the new USA Baseball bat standard: solid, one-piece wood bats that adhere to Little League’s regulations will be allowed for play with or without the USA Baseball mark (see Rule 27). So if you have a Phoenix wood youth bat and play in any youth league, you are all set!

All Phoenix Bats youth wood bats meet or exceed USABat and Little League standards.

Typical user:

  • Big, muscular 12-13 yr power guy getting ready for high school ball
  • Wants more hitting area and has size to handle barrel end weight
  • Likes more cone shaped knob for more flare than traditional style
  • Needs bat to meet Little League & new USA Baseball standards

DR5S Wood Bat Stats:

  • Barrel: 2.49” high school size barrel but at more manageable weight
  • Handle: .94” flares out into just enough knob to catch hand
  • Weight: -5 drop (length - 5 = weight)
  • Knob: Slight flare with a rounded knob
  • Weight: -5 drop (length - 5 = weight)

    DR271

My son loves his new DR271 bat. In his first two practices he is hitting the farthest on the team. The bat looks great and several kids on the team have asked where he got it. I appreciated the great service when we came in and tried out several bats. We ordered online after that so that he could take the time to decide on colors (flame looks as good in person as it does on the screen!), and Phoenix called me to recommend a change based on meeting my son at the store. Great service and quality!

Took my son into the shop to have an opportunity to try out the different models and have expert input on the right size for his age and development. That was a fantastic experience, we then ordered online which was a smooth process and a quick turnaround for a customized and personalized bat. This is our second Phoenix and it will most definitely not be our last!

I have purchased many bats from Phoenix over the years. The latest bat was purchased for and designed by my Grandson. He was excited about the available colors, finishes, styles, and personalization. The customer service is outstanding. They listen and perform at a very high level. The grandsons are talking about a trip to the factory to watch future purchases being made. Thanks to all at Phoenix Bats. You folks ROCK.

This is our 4th or 5th Phoenix bat. My son loves them so far. He started using them when he was 10(more as a novelty back then), but regularly uses them in tournament play at 14... He broke the last one in a tournament last month, and instantly insisted that we order a new one! Great bat, and we hope to have many more in the future!

    Great youth bat

Purchased a 31" bat in birch and black cherry finish for a 10U player as a batting practice bat. Very nice looking bat and weight was right at 26oz. He much prefers the feel on contact to a cheaper 271 ash bat from a different manufacturer that he was using. He loves hitting with this bat.
