About The DR271 Wood Bat:
The DR series of wood baseball bats are perfect for the transition of a young player moving from a youth bat to a bat with a full-size barrel.
Normally, at age 12–13, a hitter outgrows their K455, K240, or K271 wood youth bat. This is a result of physical size, league requirements and/or the speed of pitching now faced. Stick with a youth bat and the chance of breaking the wood bat increases greatly. Go to a high-school weight bat too soon and your young hitter starts picking up bad habits (like dropping the shoulder and dragging the bat through the strike zone).
Enter the DR271 to give the big 12–13 year old a power hitter's wood bat. The full-size barrel that gets the hitter used to swinging a bigger-barrel wood bat like they will have to swing no later than high school age. Because it is designed specifically as a transition bat, it comes in at only 2–3 ounces heavier than our youth bats. This makes for a very smooth transition, as it leaves the DR271 at least 2 ounces lighter than a wood bat that a high schooler will have to swing.
Per Little League rule 1.10, bats for Little League (majors) and below, shall be a smooth, rounded stick and made of wood or of material tested and proved acceptable to Little League standards. It shall not be more than 33 inches in length, not be more than two and one-quarter inches in diameter, and if wood, not less than fifteen-sixteenth inches in diameter (7/8 inch for bats less than 30 inches) at its smallest part.
In regard to the new USA Baseball bat standard: solid, one-piece wood bats that adhere to Little League’s regulations will be allowed for play with or without the USA Baseball mark (see Rule 27). So if you have a Phoenix wood youth bat and play in any youth league, you are all set!
All Phoenix Bats youth wood bats meet or exceed USABat and Little League standards.
