About The RD4 Wood Baseball Bat:

The RD4 is the official custom model of Astros prospect & Columbus, Ohio native Ronnie Dawson. Ronnie worked with our bat designer to dial in on a specific feel. After trying our AP5 and our R318, the idea was born to merge the two and the RD4 was generated. This is a perfect model for players who seek a slight barrel load with a thicker, slightly flared handle. This model helps to generate bat speed, while still maintaining a nice balanced feel to promote bat control.

  • Power hitter seeking a little less end weight and more bat speed
  • Extra base hitter who is looking for more barrel than a F110 or R141
  • Experienced wood bat player looking for a versatile bat in the middle of the line-up

If you're not a fan of a flared handle, try our JK5 pro series wood bat—it’s the same barrel as the BB71, with a more traditional transition from the handle into the knob.

Handle: .94" slightly thicker handle
Knob: Moderate flare in to knob, which catches hand

    As a long time user of the V243, switching to the RD4 was a little daunting. But after talking with the Phoenix team, I made the leap. When the bat arrived and I pulled it out of the box, it felt like a telephone pole and I was very nervous. Then I waggled it a few times and my anxiety skyrocketed. This thing weighed a TON!!! Then I actually swang it...... Oh. My. Goodness!! This bat is well balanced that it felt like the weight just DISAPPEARED. I couldn't stop swinging it. Thanks again to the Phoenix crew for talking me out of my comfort zone and into this masterpiece!!!

    RD4 very good balance, with enough end weight to add sufficient pop. This bat seems to be the right fit for a 5 - 11 inch, 180 pound college freshman.
