Description

COMPLETE YOUR COLLECTION WITH OUR 1860's ERA BASE BALL

Mid 19th century base ball (it was two words back in the day) made from one piece of leather.
Made in accordance with the New York rules of 1860 as found in “Beadle’s Dime Base Ball Player”.
Slightly larger than a modern baseball, this is produced for the modern Vintage Base Ball teams of today to use in their games.  Our traditional Phoenix Bats Vintage Base Ball - which has been the best selling vintage base ball for over 20 years - is a great vintage base ball for those just getting introduced to the game, to those 20+ year seasoned veterans.

Phoenix Bats recommends this vintage base ball for those that desire to have a ball that softens over time, but holds up to many practices and matches.  This is also the recommended vintage base ball for those traveling clubs playing more "festival" games.  While it softens over time, you can still crush this with your mighty swings!

  • Roughly 9 3/4" in diameter
  • 5 3/4 ouces in weight
  • Lemon Peel design

    Lemon Peel Base Ball

We used this in a window display on Main Street, Historic Ellicott City MD, as part of an exhibit on 1860s base ball played by the Union soldiers who camped near town. It is the proper shape and color, and really added another dimension to the exhibit and teaching the history of the National Pastime.

    Lemon Peel 1860s Baseball

I just saw my first 1864 rules baseball game and had to have one of these baseballs for my collection. I searched for 1860 era baseballs and found the Phoenix Bats web site. It is a high quality reproduction and is identical in size and feel to the one used in the game.

They are round, brown and hit the ground. Great lemon peels for the 1860-67 game.

I always go to Phoenix for these balls.

    Lemon Base Ball

As a student and a fan of the old game, when it was spelled with two words, base ball, and played without gloves, holding this item really invokes the era. The ball is hand-tooled and the craftsmanship brings credibility to it. The slight unevenness of the surface, a curve in the seams--these are not imperfections; they are proofs of the authenticity of the commitment Phoenix brings to its work. The ball is a joy to hold.

These are probably the best 1860’s base balls around. They last a very long time and are great quality!
